Two Mardi Gras Parades

The first Mardi Gras parade we went to was downtown on the Saturday before Mardi Gras when it was raining ALL weekend. The rain kind of let off a little bit late afternoon so we went with Mandy, Steve, and her parents. Needless to say, the parade was no that great. The floats were that great and there was hardly anybody there. It seemed kind of lame. We at least got some beads and cute little stuffed animals for Shalom, and it was nice to get out of the house.

Mandy and I decided to go the parade in New Orleans on Monday. I certainly wasn't satisfied with the parade in downtown Baton Rouge. It was too bad Mike and Steve couldn't come down with us though. I really, really like the parade on Monday in New Orleans because it goes down St. Charles where the church is there. It was so nice to be able to hang out at this little field area at the church, which is gated, (where there were lots of other members eating and hanging out) and then be able to walk over to the parade to catch some beads and watch the floats for few minutes and then go back. It was just the perfect situation, especially for kids. Shalom had a lot of fun dancing to the music and catching beads, well, really just hanging on our shoulders. (It's almost like she had 3 other moms there - Mandy, Sarah, and Helen. They just kind of take over and help out and play with her. They're so awesome, but I know it'll all change once they have their own kids.) It was so nice that Shalom was easy-going the whole time. She is a good little travel buddy.

Later on, when we got home, I found Shalom playing with Roxy in a big mud puddle in the back yard. I just laughed....what can you do at that point. I didn't think it was too funny though when she got back in the mud puddle after giving her and Roxy and bath.....ugh! What a day!
